Fruit Paradise

Their fruit tarts are simply stunning and gorgeous.  Wonder if they taste as good as they look.

They offered a Tart Set @$9.80, with a choice of 1 sliced Tart with blend Tea / Coffee / Soft Drink.  I ordered some citrus tea (can't remember the name) and a mixed fruit tart.

There are too many different tarts to choose from, with the "Kia-Su" spirit, decided to have the mixed fruit tart so as to have a bit of everything.  The tart is served on a plate decorated with sauces and blueberry.  There is a lot of japanese cream in the tart, not too sweet and quite light.

Got the chance to try a lot more flavours during one of my colleagues' farewell dessert party.  He got 4 different fruit tarts - Mango Strawberry Tart, chocolate banana tart, mixed berries chocolate tart and mixed fruit tart.

Mixed Fruit Tart.  Same as what we had previously. There is blueberry, banana, strawberry, kiwi, mango, orange, grapefruit and i think apple.

Chocolate Banana Tart.  Chocolate and banana suppose to be the best combination, but somehow this doesn't impress me. The banana flavour is so strong that i seems to missed out how the nuts and tart base actually taste.

Mango Strawberry Tart.  Mango is one of my favourite fruits.  For the price paid, will be expecting much more mango slice and cubes.  Doesn't really get the fragrant of the mango as well, not too sure if its due to the jelly coating.

Mixed Berries Chocolate is my pick among the 4. There is lots of stuff in there, not in a messy way but complementing one another. You can taste the nuts, the freshness of the berries, the sweetness of the chocolate, lightness of the cream and the crunchy base. With all the fruits and thee notion of free of unhealthy additives and preservatives, somehow we feel less sinful gobbling a few more pieces.

Verdict? Think its a bit pricely for take-away and they do not taste as gorgeous as they look. For dine-in, its definitely a cheaper alternative to hotel hi-tea.

JPot - Hotpot Singapore Style

Steamboat had never been my favourite. However, I had been to JPot at least 5 times, initiated by friends, colleagues or family.

Initially the price for JPot was attractive, set lunch starting from $9.80++, you can also get a decent set dinner with less than $20.  With the new menu that is more expensive and with less variety, there is really not much motivation for me to revisit this restaurant.

Recently visited JPot again because of a friend's birthday. We settled for a 2 person dinner set A which ends up to be $60+ after tax and service charges.

Each person has an individual hotpot and get to choose from a variety of soup bases - JPot Superior Broth, Porridge, Laksa, Bak Kut Teh, Herbal, Tom Yum and vegetarian.  We get the JPot Superior Broth and silky porridge.

They also offered a bar of ingredients and sauces for you to freely mix and match for the steamboat dip. The Jpot soy sauce, fried garlic and spring onions are my usual pick. It will be better if they can offer (instead of upon request) more dipping saucers to satisfy the need of variety of sauces for different meat, just like the way we are pampered for buffet.

My dipping sauce

Seafood - live prawns, sliced red garoupa, sliced cuttlefish, scallop, hand-made fish noodle. The prawns and fish are fresh. My favourite is the scallop, if you can spot the thinly sliced little pieces of scallop from the picture. Besides Vietnamese pho, there are also spinach with Enoki Mushroom included in the set.

Set Dinner A

Freshly sliced and marinated Meat, we choose Pork Loin and marinated chicken.  The Pork loin is nice, just like shabu shabu.  The quail egg are to be mixed with the marinated chicken before cooking to enhance its tenderness.
